London Level 3 Certificate in Community Interpreting

This course will equip you with the skills to undertake interpreting work at a basic level of two-way communication. Working towards a Level 3 qualification, you will focus on selecting and preparing for community interpreting assignments/work, understanding the sectors within which you may work and developing your own performance.

Course aim

The aim of this qualification is to develop the skills and knowledge required to work as a Community Interpreter.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • Before you can join this course you will need to talk to a member of staff and do an initial assessment to make sure the course is right for you. Please call the Student Support Team on 0300 303 3464

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • explain the role of the community interpreter
  • determine the sectors where interpreters may be required to work
  • develop and practise sight translation
  • demonstrate the skills of two-way interpreting
  • develop and enhance their own performance

This course is for students who are resident in London and who are either not in work and want to gain employment or are working and on a low wage (less than £21,157.50 a year). You need to be aged 19+ and be available to undertake 85 hours of tutor led study
