This course is intended for beginners with little or no experience of using computer technology. You will gain essential digital skills that you need for life and work, including learning the basics of applying computer technology through devices like PCs, laptops, and mobile phones. You will learn practical steps for keeping safe on the internet and develop confidence and motivation to engage more with digital technology. This course has been developed within the guidance and framework of the UK Government's Education policy for improving all adults Digital Skills. We will cover: Tips and strategies for using emails, Zoom, and Skype How to use free software like Microsoft Word and Google Docs to communicate your ideas professionally Using search engines effectively Learn methods for attaching and submitting documents online Introduction to using spreadsheets and creating a home budget Being safe and legal online - what to avoid and how to protect yourself and much more!

Course aim

This foundation course will give you essential knowledge and digital skills you need for life and work to function effectively in our modern society.

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Communicate with friends and family using video tools
  • Use search engines to find information and organise information and content using files and folders on my device or in the cloud
  • Use word processing and presentation applications to create simple documents
  • Access and use public services online, including filling in forms, uploading documents and photographs when this is required to complete an online transaction
  • Understand the risks and threats involved in carrying out activities online and the importance of working securely

A reliable internet broadband connection and a laptop or desktop computer is recommended. The course can be accessed using an Ipad or other tablet but some features of the training may need a keyboard and mouse. It is not recommended to enroll on this course using just a mobile phone.

This course is funded by the Greater London Combined Authority but is also open to residents of other areas.

  • You are aged 19 years or older on 1st September 2021
  • You declare that the address you provide is correct and that you will provide evidence of this and your eligibility to live and work in the UK
