Garment Making for Beginners to Intermediate III

Beginners will be introduced to the domestic sewing machine, they will be taught how to carry out a range of basic sewing skills and techniques, gain experience working with simple patterns, and will be set projects designed to help develop their understanding of how garments are made and in the process learn how to make simple garments for children and for themselves.

Course aim

The course caters for both beginners and those with some sewing experience, they will be introduced to a range of sewing skills/techniques and tools/equipment that will help them make a range of simple garments.

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Learn how to use the domestic sewing machine safely and carry out a range of basic sewing skills & techniques.
  • Learn how to work with commercial patterns and cut out fabric accurately.
  • Gain a better understanding of how different types of garments are made.
  • Produce an embroidered bag, and a range of simple garments for themselves.
