National Level 2 Functional Skills Maths

This course will be delivered through an online Zoom classroom enabling you to study for a Functional Skills qualification with full tutor support in the comfort of your own home. Before you can join this course, you will need to talk to a member of staff and do an initial assessment to make sure the course is right for you. For more information and to book an appointment please email functionalskills@wea.org.uk In this Level 2 course you will develop and apply your maths skills in a wide range of different contexts. Tasks will involve working with percentages, fractions, decimals, ratio and proportion, formulae and conversion between different systems of measurement. You will also present and interpret statistical information using mean, median, mode and probability.

Course aim

This course will help you to enhance your skills and confidence in maths. You will be able to practise your maths skills through everyday real life situations. This course leads to a NCFE Level 2 Functional Skills Maths qualification.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is for adults who already have Level 1 skills in Maths. Before you can join this course you will need to talk to a member of staff and do an initial assessment to make sure the course is right for you. Please email functionalskills@wea.org.uk

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Use ratio, direct and indirect proportion and formulae to solve problems
  • Solve problems involving percentages - increases, decreases and original values
  • Solve problems involving scale drawings and angles and properties of shapes
  • Present statistical information and use a range of statistical measures including mean, median, mode, range, percentages and probability to interpret data
  • Solve problems that involve calculating compound measures and converting between metric and imperial units of measurement

A laptop/pc (Windows 8 or higher / Mac OS X or higher), broadband internet connection, webcam, speakers, microphone and Google Chrome browser. You need a smart phone which can download apps (Android 4.1 or higher / IOS 8 or higher).
