Practical Drawing and Watercolour: Snow to Blossoms

Learn to draw and paint with watercolour the landscape, parks and natural forms through winter and spring seasons. You will develop ways to show texture, form and colour using a range of drawing materials, and learn how to combine some of these with watercolour. We will also cover ways of using pen and ink, a favourite medium of some of the plein air artists who illustrated landscape and ruins in 18th Century for tourists on the Grand Tour

Course aim

To provide an introduction to practical drawing and watercolour techniques through the seasons for landscape, parks and natural forms. We will be working with a range of drawing materials, pen and ink and watercolours online on zoom.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • You will develop skills to sketch with chalk pastels on sugar paper or pastel paper
  • You will develop some understanding of using colour theory to create depth in your painting using watercolour glazes.
  • You will learn some ways to compose pictures and how to lead the eye around a picture and how to combine information from sketches and photos.
  • Develop some techniques of using pen with line and wash to show tone and texture.
  • Improve your wellbeing working with a group of peope interested in art online.

A4 cartridge paper. pencils HB,2B,5B, charcoal and a putty rubber or a charcoal pencil, artists chalk pastels, sugar or A3 pastel paper, tissue for cleaning, watercolour paper A3 300gms, palette or saucer, pen and Indian waterproof ink, watercolours, synthetic watercolour brushes.
