This online drawing and watercolour course is designed to explore different ways of looking. Learn to draw with a range of materials including pastels (which contemporary artists and the Impressionist painters used), and develop a watercolour painting technique. By the end of the course you will have developed your own sketchbooks with observational and imaginative drawing and be familiar with watercolour, and start pen and ink painting.
Course aim
An introduction to drawing with a variety of materials and watercolour painting techniques. Basic drawing techniques and colour theory will be covered.
Do I need any particular skills or experience?

By the end of the course I should be able to:
- Become confident to sketch at home and outdoors learning observational drawing techniques.
- Improve your well-being working online with other people.
- Learn about balancing a picture through your composition technique and ways to create pictorial depth.
- Develop drawing techniques in showing tonal contrast using line and a variety of marks with pastels, pencil and pen and ink.
- Learn to mix and improve use of colour and develop a knowledge of different colour pigments to make warm or cold colours in watercolour.
What else do I need to know?
A4 or A3 sketch pads one of pastel or sugar paper and another of watercolour paper, cartridge paper, HB 2b, 5B pencils, chalk pastels, fixative. pen & ink, outline pen, watercolours, Palette. synthetic or nylon watercolour brushes of different sizes including a fan brush, kitchen roll & sponge.
