To provide an overview of the Hanoverian dynasty and how it helped establish the foundation of a 'constitutional monarchy' in Britain in the eighteenth century. The course will also explore social themes such as the Arts and Architecture

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • An understanding of the main impact the Hanoverian dynasty had in establishing a constitutional monarchy and parliamentary democracy
  • An understanding of the main social themes in Georgian times such as the Arts, Architecture, Crime and Punishment and Georgian philanthropy
  • An understanding of the 2 Jacobite rebellions and how they were narrowly defeated by the Hanoverians
  • An understanding of how Britain lost the American colonies
  • An understanding of Britain's reaction to the French Revolution in 1789
