At the crossroad of intuition and science, colour has been the subject of many artistic debates. While studying paintings at the National Gallery, we will discuss what colour is and how it works, We will learn about pigments and colour theory, and see how artists were able to achieve specific effects.

Course aim

During this visit we will focus on the chromatic aspects of some of the National Gallery's best works of art.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Improve your use of technical vocabulary
  • Name some pigments and recount their history
  • Describe and analyse the chromatic aspects of a work of art

The meeting point will be inside the entrance to the Sainsbury Wing. The tutor will be in touch with precise location nearer the time.
