SAIL Project: Working in and Leading a Team

The Working in and Leading a Team course aims to support your own growth and development in team working and problem solving to enhance your performance as a team member and leader. You will have the opportunity to learn how to become a more confident leader and recognise the qualities required to lead a team to be more effective and efficient. You will participate in learning the following topics: Understand the characteristics of good team working Understand and demonstrate own strengths and role in a team Recognise and value the contribution made by others in a team Participate in and lead a team Use problem solving skills and techniques to improve team performance You will be encouraged to put your learning into practice within your role and will be given the opportunity to reflect on the impact it has made, between sessions.

This course is only for Participants enrolled onto the Smart and Inclusive Leadership Project (SAIL). This Project is part-funded by the European Social Fund (ESF)

Course aim

The aim of this course is to enable you to understand the characteristics of good team working, understand your own strengths and role in a team, recognise and value the contribution made by others and to know how to participate in and lead a team.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is for beginners and improvers
  • This course is for employees of SMEs that are based in the D2N2 area (Derby, Derbyshire, Nottingham, and Nottinghamshire). SMEs are defined as: - having less than 250 employees - annual turnover under EUR 50 million or; - annual balance sheet less than EUR 43 million

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Identify two characteristics of a good team
  • Identify your own strengths and role within a team
  • Identify the strengths others can bring to a team
  • Identify how to use problem solving skills and techniques
  • Review your own performance within your team and identify ways to improve

The course is online, via zoom. It will be relaxed and friendly Have a notebook and pen nearby or a tab open to make notes, if you wish.
