Monday Music

Ref: C2346865

The following activities will be covered on this course - playing simple, popular 'riffs' on guitar and bass guitar; learning or re-learning two easy 'riffs' for guitar and bass guitar; a recap or introduction to basic chords; playing guitar or bass guitar with fingers, or with a plectrum; writing the lyrics to our own song; 'body percussion', which is tapping parts of the body in time with a count, building up a routine that can be remembered and repeated; basic rhythms on African djembe drums or percussion.

Course aim

The focus for this course is to teach and learn the rudiments of guitar and bass guitar. It is open to anyone who wishes to learn the basics, or improve their skills. Other activities will be included, including percussion craft and body percussion.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Play at least 2 or more basic chords on guitar, or 2 bass 'lines'. The bass lines can be sourced from popular music, written by the tutor, or written by myself.
  • Account for having contributed to the writing of at least one original song - the words, or part of the music.
  • Demonstrate a short 'body percussion' routine containing at least ten individual elements. We will tap the body in different places along to a count from the tutor.
  • Play at least two new rhythms on African djembe drums or a percussion instrument
  • Demonstrate that I can warm up my voice using one of the techniques that I have been shown by the tutor. For example, 'the musical arrows' technique, or the 'big face little face' technique.

How will I be taught?

What kind of feedback can I expect?

What else do I need to know?

All instruments will be provided by the tutors, although if you have a guitar or bass guitar, it would help if you can bring it along, as the tutors can only bring so much and the instruments will be rotated around the group.
