Victorian Valentines

Have fun creating a unique Valentine's Day card and attractive heart-shaped gift card or box, all inspired by the wonderful imagery and resources from the nineteenth century. Experiment with a variety of card-making techniques employed by the Victorians, including creative folding, cutting and application of all manner of embellishments, some from the natural world. Draw inspiration from a fascinating array of nineteenth century images and resources and investigate the intriguing history of Valentines Day and discover how this special day was celebrated in the nineteenth century. Beginners and experienced crafters all welcome.

Course aim

This course will provide an introduction to Valentines Day in Victorian Times and provide the opportunity to develop your creative skills and enjoy craft activities inspired by the period.

  • This course is for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Have an overview of Valentines Day and how it was celebrated in Victorian Times
  • Create a Valentine card inspired by 19th century imagery
  • Identify how to use two different forms of folding to create different shaping effects
  • Know how to create a heart shaped gift box or card in Victorian style
  • Know where to access resources for the craft activities
