We will view the role of women in the history of textiles through a series of 'snap-shots' - looking at different areas of textile production and development, and also different periods of history.

Course aim

We will look at the role women have played in the production and development of textiles through history

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Briefly explain women's role in fibre production at certain times in history
  • Give an example of women's role in the production of cloth at certain times in history
  • Describe women's role in the 'Industrial Revolution' of the 18th and 19th centuries
  • Briefly explain the role played in textiles by a particular character from history
