Creative Writing Masterclass with Deborah Tyler-Bennett

Ref: C2346639

This online course provides a five week masterclass with award winning poet and fiction writer, Deborah Tyler-Bennett. In the first week you'll create a writing draft, to be brought back and discussed in week two. Week three concentrates on re-drafting and polishing, with week four looking at how to prepare work for publication. Week five looks at literary markets, and how to send work out.

Course aim

This online course provides writers with an opportunity to write with a published author, looking at how to create, polish, and send out a piece of work in either poetry or prose.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is for improvers
  • Do bring along any experiences with drafting work you might have had, and a writer's notebook should you keep one.

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Explore what makes a good draft of work, whether this be in poetry or prose.
  • Discover how to expand this draft, and how to edit, cut, and polish your work.
  • Analyse how a piece of writing may suit a particular market, and how to make the most of this.
  • Consider how re-drafts are important in creating a sustained and organic piece of creative writing.
  • Evaluate how the creative writing marketplace works, and how to tailor where you send work to suit your style.

How will I be taught?

What kind of feedback can I expect?

What else do I need to know?

Pen, paper, folder, any drafts you feel relevant to the course, and a writer's notebook, either digital or paper.
