Scandals in History

Ref: C2346548

The course examines a selection of scandals as events of intrinsic interest and as illustrations of the character of the times in which they occurred. Examples: the Opium Wars, Geli and Adolf, L' Affaire Dreyfus, the Profumo Affair, the Post Office Scandal, the Kennedy family, the Jeremy Thorpe trial. Variously set in Britain, the USA, Europe and China, the selected scandals offer insights into the prevailing attitudes of their particular times. Each of the scandals to be examined significantly altered the course of social and political history.
