The Bayeux Tapestry is one of the most famous historical artefacts in the world, but have you ever wondered how the tapestry came to be made? Over these two sessions we will investigate the history of this famous artefact and look at its significance as a record of life at the time that it was made. During our investigation we will also be able to look at the history of the events depicted in the piece and at the way that the representation of events gives us information about how people lived nearly 1,000 years ago. So, why not come along and discover more about one of the most famous periods in history through looking at one of the most famous artefacts.
Course aim
To provide a brief overview of the Bayeux Tapestry, examining the history of the artefact itself and the history that is revealed within the images that are depicted.

By the end of the course I should be able to:
- describe the history of the creation of the Bayeux Tapestry.
- identify the different events depicted within the Bayeux Tapestry.
- recognise some ways in which the Bayeux Tapestry depicts life as it was in the 11th Century.
- explain reasons why the Bayeux Tapestry is such an important object.
