Creative Writing For All

Ref: C2346492

Do you write and want to make the most of your writing? Do you wish to share ideas and techniques in poetry and prose with like minded writers? Then come along and expand your skills whilst learning some new techniques. Taught by a published writer, this course considers how to develop your creative writing 'voice' via exercises in poetry and prose.

Course aim

This course aims to get people expanding their creative writing skills in both poetry and prose. Taught by a published writer, the in course techniques are shared between like minded participants who wish to explore the limits of writing creatively.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is for beginners and improvers
  • Students will learn as much from their fellow writers as from the Tutor. The first ten minutes of each session involve 'sharing time' where students can discuss writing, cultural, and WEA opportunities.

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Explore and expand a knowledge of poetic rhythm via exercises.
  • Devise sets of notes that will benefit writing and develop a 'road map' technique for pieces of work.
  • Develop explorations into prose techniques via storytelling exercises.
  • Expand skills in cutting, editing, and polishing, so that the writer builds up a 'suite' of editing techniques.
  • Should it be wished, knowledge of where to send work out, and how to approach publishers and editors, will be shared.

How will I be taught?

What kind of feedback can I expect?

What else do I need to know?

Pens, paper, and folder. Please bring along any writing or cultural opportunities you wish to share. Also, do keep a writer's notebook, whatever form, digital or otherwise, this may take.
