Learning Walk: The Derbyshire Portway with Alastair Clark

Ref: C2346484

This is a Learning Walk where we will combine a gentle outdoor walk with periodic stops along the way where we examine a learning theme and share our own experiences. When we go for a walk, the heart pumps faster, circulating more blood and oxygen not just to the muscles but to all the organs including the brain. Come along and give this a try.. Meet: Wirksworth Market Place car park, next to the Hope & Anchor DE4 4ET.

Course aim

Over the course of this walk we will discover the known history of the ancient trackway called the Derbyshire Portway

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • describe the general route of the Derbyshire Portway
  • list examples of goods which would have been carried along the Portway
  • describe the working practices of pack horse transport
  • define how you plan to research further ancient trackways.

How will I be taught?

What kind of feedback can I expect?

What else do I need to know?

You will need to come prepared for a Winter walk in the English Countryide. Good shoes / boots and a warm waterproof jacket.
