This course is aimed at those who are new to dress making and struggle to follow pattern instructions and symbols but want to learn how to take their own measurements correctly and use free hand cutting techniques. The course is also suitable for people who already have some experience in cutting patterns but want to learn some new techniques. The course will cover a range of cutting and sewing techniques such as how to lay fabric on straight grain, choosing appropriate fabric for the designs, correct body measuring points and the safe use of sewing machines

Do I need any particular skills or experience?
- This course is for beginners and improvers
By the end of the course I should be able to:
- Understand correct body measuring points in dress making
- Show how to cut simple shapes for a top, skirt, trousers, or a tunic using own measurements
- Demonstrate how to use a sewing machine to sew straight seams, curves, and corners
- Create a simple garment of own choice
- Discuss and identify subject related local employment or self-employed work opportunities
What else do I need to know?
Sewing machines and basic sewing room materials and tools will be provided ,but it is advised to bring own sewing kit.
