Constant pain takes its toll; mentally and physically. It's hard to know what to accept and what to resist. It can be hard to stay motivated and to keep participating in an active and fulfilling life, but it isn't impossible. In this course your tutor will help you evaluate steps you can take to manage your pain as well as well-being exercises to improve your mood and help you cope with the additional life pressures that chronic pain can bring. This is a live course, delivered via zoom and canvas, there will be plenty of opportunities to ask questions and the tutor will endeavour to personalise sessions wherever possible. This programme is restricted to a maximum of 20 students.
Course aim
To provide support for those people living with pain; through the examination of a variety of resources we will look at how best they can manage their physical and mental health to have the best quality of life possible.
Do I need any particular skills or experience?
- This course is for beginners
By the end of the course I should be able to:
- Investigate the support options available and get the most out of what is out there - assess how relevant/suitable they are
- Implement problem solving techniques to help me manage my specific circumstances; incuding the benefits and logic behind the 3 P’s of Pacing
- Relay the benefits of exercise and have discovered appropriate activities to try
- Engage in relaxation techniques, mindfulness and or meditation
- Describe what stoicism is as a way of living well with chronic pain and flare ups.
