Women in Geology

Ref: C2228679

Come and learn about some amazing female geoscientists and their struggles to be accepted in the scientific community. We will explore their lives and the discoveries they made through this interactive four week course. Join Bev Fowlston, your enthusiastic Earth science tutor, on this journey of discovery. You will be asked to complete assignments on our virtual learning platform, Canvas, and participate in discussions about these amazing women.

Course aim

To introduce women geoscientists with a view to exploring their influence on science and their struggles to be heard.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is for beginners and improvers
  • A basic understanding of geology would be beneficial but not essential. You may wish to brush up your skills by flicking through a GCSE or (9for us oldies!) an O-level geology book.

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Engage in active learning
  • Discover some of the female geoscientists who have contributed to Earth science
  • Explore how women become accepted in the geoscientific community
  • Understand the contribution that female geoscientists have made to scientific discovery

How will I be taught?
