Have you ever wanted to work in the retail? For a local independent business or a well-known high street brand? This course will help you to identify the skills, abilities and knowledge needed to secure employment in this exciting sector.

Course aim

An Introduction to working in the retail sector, for those who are new to retail or returning to working in the sector after a period of absence.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Identify key skills, abilities and knowledge form life, work and education that will help you to gain employment in the retail sector.
  • Identify the different elements of customer service and understand what great customer service means.
  • Understand the sales process from product knowledge to counter sales and cash handling.
  • Understand how to manage stock: process goods, date and temperature, stock rotation and pricing.
  • Retail in a COVID world: Understand the latest government guidance. How to stay safe and keep your customers safe.

You will need an internet connection, speakers, a microphone (or headset) and a webcam so that you can use our video learning platform, Zoom. You will need a personal email address to join the WEA’s digital learning platform, Canvas

Enrolment Conditions

As a registered charity, and to meet our funders’ requirements, we need to check a few things with you before you enrol. Please check the details below to ensure you meet the basic eligibility critiera:

  • You are paying the standard fee (with a credit or debit card) or you are on any of the qualifying benefits
  • You have a valid email address so that you can receive confirmation of your booking
  • You have been resident in the UK, EU or EEA for the last 3 years
  • You are aged 19 years or older on 1st September 2021
  • You declare that the address you provide is correct and that you will provide evidence of this and your eligibility to live and work in the UK
  • You have read and accept our standard terms and conditions
