What else do I need to know? Is there anything I need to provide?
This course is for students who are resident in London and who are either not in work and want to gain employment or are working and on a low wage (less than £21,157.50 a year). You need to be aged 19+ and be available to undertake 85 hours of tutor led study
Course aim:
The aim of this qualification is to develop the skills and knowledge required to work as a Community Interpreter.
Course description:
This course will equip you with the skills to undertake interpreting work at a basic level of two-way communication. Working towards a Level 3 qualification, you will focus on selecting and preparing for community interpreting assignments/work, understanding the sectors within which you may work and developing your own performance.
By the end of the course I will be able to:
1. explain the role of the community interpreter
2. determine the sectors where interpreters may be required to work
3. develop and practise sight translation
4. demonstrate the skills of two-way interpreting
5. develop and enhance their own performance
How will I learn?

We expect you to attend your classroom sessions and make time to do any required learning activities on your own.

The WEA tutor will use a range of teaching and learning activities and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning. Your tutor will use tasks to see how you are learning, which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects, discussion, written or practical work. Your tutor will give you feedback on your learning and progress.

This includes using Canvas to think about and record your progress and to give your tutor and the WEA feedback on your course. If your course is online, you will join a virtual classroom using a weblink: the WEA uses a video-conferencing tool called Zoom.
