In this Level 1 course you will use common situations like shopping, travel, house and home, DIY and health to develop your ability to perform calculations using decimals, percentages, time and units of measurement. You will also explore ratio and proportion, as well as perimeter, area and volume.

Course aim
This course will help you to enhance your skills and confidence in maths. You will be able to practise your maths skills through everyday real life situations. This course leads to a City & Guilds Level 1 Functional Skills Maths qualification.
Do I need any particular skills or experience?
By the end of the course I should be able to:
- Use percentages, fractions and ratios solve problems
- Convert between units of length, weight, capacity, money and time
- Solve problems using perimeter, area and volume of shapes including use of scale drawings
- Interpret and discuss information from lists, charts and data tables
- Express probability on a scale from 0 to 1 in words or fractions

- What you need: You will need an internet connection, speakers, a microphone and a webcam so that you can use our video learning platform, Zoom. You could do this using a smart phone, tablet, laptop or a desktop computer (at home or through a library etc.). - You will need a personal email address to join the WEA’s digital learning platform, Canvas so that you can receive resources, record your progress and achievement and to work with others and share ideas.
