The aim of the course is to help build attendees confidence and to help develop skills to assert themselves within their day to day lives. By the end of this course, we will have considered what is meant by assertive behaviour and to identify personal barriers to acting assertively. We will look at a number of tools and techniques which will help in overcoming barriers, and build self-confidence and self-esteem.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?
- This course is for beginners and improvers
- The course is informal and participative and is an opportunity for discussion and focused problem solving, although there is no pressure on anyone to join any exercises or discussions they are not comfortable with
By the end of the course I should be able to:
- To be able to describe the main features of assertive behaviour
- To be able to identify individual barriers to assertive behaviour and actions that might address these
- To consider a framework for having constructive conversations
