This qualification is recognised by the UK's leading professional body (the Federation of Holistic Therapists (FHT)) as being fit for purpose for providing learners with the relevant knowledge and skills to progress to a Technical Level qualification in complementary therapy at Level 3.
Additional information about this course
This qualification includes anatomy and physiology, basic massage therapy techniques, basic reflexology techniques, basic aromatherapy techniques, healthy eating and wellbeing, clinic services and business awareness. Learners will have their knowledge and skills assessed in a real or realistic working environment.
Course aim
This course prepares you for a career as a complementary therapist. It includes anatomy and physiology, basic massage therapy, reflexology and aromatherapy techniques and healthy eating and wellbeing.

By the end of the course I should be able to:
- Understand the importance of anatomy and physiology for complementary therapies
- Demonstrate basic massage therapy techniques for complementary therapies
- Demonstrate basic aromatherapy techniques using pre-blended oils
- Demonstrate basic reflexology techniques
- Understand healthy eating and well-being for the complementary therapy client
How will I be taught?
- The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
- You will be expected to carry out a range of activities in your own time
What kind of feedback can I expect?
- Your tutor will provide written, text and audio feedback recorded in WEA Canvas, WEA’s digital learning platform.
- A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
- You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
- You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
- A file of work will be kept which will help to record your progress
What else do I need to know?
- You will also need access to the internet outside of your sessions. You could do this using a smart phone, tablet, laptop or a desktop computer (at home or through a library etc.).
