This is a vocational qualification that will prepare you for further study at level 3 within the hair and media make-up sector. The units provide a sound basis for further study. The three mandatory units cover the art of photographic make-up, health and safety and how to create an image based on a theme. There is also the opportunity to select optional unites e.g. dressing hair, skin tanning, body art, themed face painting, plaiting and twisting hair, colour hair using temporary colour, shaping and colouring eyebrows, apply make-up, instruction on make-up application, provide nail art, provide eyelash perming, shampoo and condition the hair and scalp, along with client consultation services.

The VTCT Level 2 Diploma in Hair and Media Make-Up Studies is a vocational qualification. The three mandatory units cover the art of photographic make-up, health and safety and how to create an image based on a theme. There is also the opportunity to further develop understanding and skills by selecting optional units, which include; dressing hair, skin tanning, body art, themed face painting, plaiting and twisting hair, plus many more. Throughout this qualification a learner will develop its knowledge and understanding of the skin, health and safety, hair and media make-up products and equipment, a range of technical skills enabling to prepare the skin and apply a variety of make-up products, using different techniques. A learner will also develop a range of basic technical hairdressing skills.
Course aim
This qualification develops knowledge and skills to prepare for employment in the hair and make-up sector of the beauty industry. Learners will have their skills assessed in real working environments.

How will I be taught?
- The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
- You may be asked to undertake additional work in your own time to support your learning
- You will be expected to carry out a range of activities in your own time
What kind of feedback can I expect?
- A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
- You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
- You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
- A file of work will be kept which will help to record your progress
- There will be a number of tasks appropriate to your course such as written work, creating art or craft, video, photography or small projects. Some of these may be marked to help you progress
