No previous qualifications are required. The course is on zoom and canvas and is run over 5 weeks followed by the offer of a placement in a care home and job interview This is the introduction to of a suite of accredited courses for people who want to work in a health and social care setting. Our courses are free to anyone on a means tested benefit or earning less than £18,525 per year. All our courses are currently delivered online using zoom and online learning platform, Canvas.
Course aim
This session will provide you with information about our preparatory courses for those wanting to work in adult social care. You will be asked to complete an assessment task that will help us to see which course is right for you.
Do I need any particular skills or experience?

- This session is for those with an interest in developing their skills in adult social care. You will need a sound grasp of English as you will be require to speak, listen, read and write up to Level 1. This will be assessed through tasks you will be asked to complete during this session.
By the end of the course I should be able to:
- Recognise the range of WEA Adult Social Care courses available
- Identify the skills I have, need and will develop during a course
- Agree whether I will be able to/ am ready to undertake an accredited course
- Prepare for enrolment or referral to other learning opportunities
How will I be taught?
- During the initial assessment you will be asked to complete tasks and will have a verbal conversation with a member of staff to discuss the course
What kind of feedback can I expect?
- Staff at the initial assessment will provide you with verbal feedback to help determine your next steps.
What else do I need to know?
- You will need a personal email address to join the WEA’s digital learning platform, Canvas so that you can receive resources, record your progress and achievement and to work with others and share ideas.
