First Steps in ESOL 2

Before you can join this course, you will need to talk to a member of staff and do an initial assessment to make sure the course is right for you. For more information and to book an appointment please call 0300 303 3464. In this ESOL class we will talk about our everyday lives (for example, shopping, health, where you live). You will learn the English alphabet and develop your knowledge of English numbers. You will practise short conversations and talk about your feelings, likes and dislikes. You will learn new words and develop your reading and skills

This course is for residents of Greater Manchester only.

Course aim

This ESOL course is for beginners. It will help you to develop basic speaking, listening, reading and writing skill in English.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is for people with little spoken English

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Read, write and say the numbers 11-20
  • Read, write and say the letters of the alphabet in upper and lower case
  • Talk about my feelings, what I like and don’t like
  • Talk about my feelings, what I like and don’t like

How will I be taught?

  • You will do lots of different activities with examples from real life situations You will work together with other students and the tutor, as well as working on your own. Your tutor will give you homework

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • Your tutor will help you to set targets for your learning. Your tutor will give you regular friendly feedback about your progress.

What else do I need to know?

  • All materials will be provided
  • Official document(s) showing the correct spelling of your name, address and date of birth. Certificates for any English / English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) qualifications you already have.

Pre-course work, reading and information sources

  • No pre reading or pre course work is required
