Enjoy learning to dance ballet to a variety of music with the benefit of improving overall fitness. This course is intended to all levels of experience who would love to learn ballet in a friendly and supportive environment. Improve your fitness, posture, balance and flexibility while dancing to music. Includes barre, centre work an short step sequences. So whatever your age and experience we look forward to meeting you. You will need to have your camera on a t all times.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

- This course is for a group of around 15 students studying in a live video-learning platform conference and an online digital learning environment platform from the comfort of your own home.

By the end of the course I should be able to:
- Demonstrate improved overall fitness, stamina and musicality in completing the ballest class.
- Demonstrate exercises at the barre to improve core strength, balance and flexibility.
- Perform a short ballet sequence incorporating steps learnt in class.
- Recognise steps and movements by their names.
How will I be taught?
- The WEA’s digital learning platform, Canvas will be used to provide resources or to support lessons, enable assessment, provide learner feedback and for other activities for individuals away from the course. - The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
What kind of feedback can I expect?
- Demonstration, question and answer, discussion, group work, observation, individual work, practical work.
What else do I need to know?
- What you need: You will need an internet connection, speakers, a microphone and a webcam so that you can use our video learning platform, Zoom. If you’d like to understand more Zoom please visit: http://bit.ly/ZoomSpec
- You will also need access to the internet outside of your sessions. You could do this using a smart phone, tablet, laptop or a desktop computer (at home or through a library etc.).
- Wear comfortable clothes or exercise clothes. Ballet shoes will be ideal or bare feet but no socks please. For health and safety reasons you must have your camera on at all times during class. You should have enough space that you can move freely and something to hold on to ie a chair.
Pre-course work, reading and information sources
- No pre reading or pre course work is required
- It is compulsory to fill in and return a pre exercise/dance halite questionnaire before your course begins.
