This course is aimed at people who genuinely want to commence yoga and may be worried about how to begin safely and gently. You may have symptoms and conditions e.g. depression, anxiety, headaches, knee/hip/neck pain, high/low blood pressure. It is specifically aimed at people who are generally less flexible or who may have conditions such as ME, MS, CFS fibromyalgia, problems with arthritis, joint or mobility problems. It is a gentle course adapted to each learner's needs, led by a well qualified tutor.
Course aim
A gentle, 12 week yoga course where we will build week on week in a friendly environment. Mat or chair based yoga accessible for everyone. Learn and practice long-lasting body and breath awareness that helps to increase overall health and wellbeing.
Do I need any particular skills or experience?

- This course is for a group of around 15 students studying in a live video-learning platform conference and an online digital learning environment platform from the comfort of your own home.
- This course is suitable for beginners and improvers
- If you have done yoga before, you are very welcome, however please note that it is a mixed ability class. Therefore it is generally aimed at beginners.
By the end of the course I should be able to:
- Feel more physically grounded, increasd our flexibility.
- Connect with others.
- Improve my balance, coordination and strength giving me greater focus and helping to prevent falls.
- Acquire breathing techniques to reduce stress levels and help us learn how to breathe in order to calm our mental state.
- Develop a clearer knowledge of how to help myself ie. self efficacy will improve and become more motivated to continue exercising regularly.
How will I be taught?
- The WEA’s digital learning platform, Canvas will be used to provide resources or to support lessons, enable assessment, provide learner feedback and for other activities for individuals away from the course. - The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
- Developing a simple home practice helps to support your ongoing learning in class. There will be some resources available on the online Canvas platform.
What kind of feedback can I expect?
- A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
- You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
- You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
- Experiential learning.
What else do I need to know?

- You will also need access to the internet outside of your sessions. You could do this using a smart phone, tablet, laptop or a desktop computer (at home or through a library etc.).

- It would be helpful if you had access to the internet (Mobile phone, tablet or computer at home or through a library etc.)
- Bring or buy a yoga mat as this is highly recommended. A chair, cushion and blanket need to be available to you as well.
