This six week course looks at Russian literature and art of the so-called ‘Silver Age’, starting during the period surrounding the Russian Revolution of 1917 and working through the first half of the 20th Century. We will start with an historical overview of the period and go on to look at poetry from Blok, Mandelstam and Akhmatova - three of the most important poets of the 20th century. Our consideration of art will focus on paintings by Marc Chagall, and we will consider three key novels: 'We' by Zamyatin, 'The Master and Margarita' by Bulgakov and 'Doctor Zhivago' by Boris Pasternak. Poems and paintings will be provided on Canvas.
