The UK has become a major centre for architecture on the international stage. Since the 1980s London in particular has been operating as a hub for architects winning design competitions for buildings around the world. Architectural practices led by Norman Foster and Richard Rogers led the way, David Chipperfield is now a “national treasure” in Germany, and Zaha Hadid’s trade-mark sinuous and jagged forms are to be seen as far afield as Baku in Azerbaijan.
