Coaching for Positive Change

Participants will learn to be able to make a difference in their lives, making a change and respond to new circumstances. They will learn to recognise physical and emotional signs of anxiety. Learners will develop compassion and be able to use self-soothing practices when needed. Tools such us positive affirmation will allow them to stay focused and balanced by looking at the positive elements in their lives. By acceptance and understanding unhealthy thinking habits they will regain the full control of their own lives. They will work on self-esteem and confidence, understand better their environment as well as any relationships they build with others. Each week the group will learn new mindfulness techniques which will allow them to break off the autopilot and slowly start regaining a position of power in daily decisions. Appreciation, compassion and kindness are key elements of each session.

Course aim

This is a course is for anyone looking to make a difference in their lives, make a change or respond to new circumstances.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • You will need your own personal email address so that you’re able to login to the WEA’s digital learning platform: WEA Canvas.   • No skills or experience needed

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Recognise at least 3 physical and 3 emotional signs of anxiety and stress. Create ‘1 MONTH CHANGE PLAN’ using SMART and goal prioritising approaches.
  • Understand the brain anxiety cycle. Become familiar with the emotional regulation system and can recognise all parts: soothing, drive and threat.
  • Acknowledge any negative emotions and memories from the past.
  • List at least 5 positive and ‘negative’ characteristics about themselves. Know how to challenge the ‘negative’ labels.
  • Recognise and challenge ‘UNHELPFUL THINKING HABITS’. Have a least 2 techniques in place to challenge the ‘inner bully'.

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA’s digital learning platform, Canvas will be used to provide resources or to support lessons, enable assessment, provide learner feedback and for other activities for individuals away from the course. What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • You will be encouraged to consider other students work and give your opinions and suggestions

  • You are paying the standard fee (with a credit or debit card) or you are on any of the qualifying benefits
  • You have a valid email address so that you can receive confirmation of your booking
  • You have been resident in the UK, EU or EEA for the last 3 years
  • You are aged 19 years or older on 1st September 2020
