A singing class built around the abilities of the group, no previous experience needed. The chance to learn different songs from different genres and styles of music. From modern to jazz, pop to folk, musical to country...the choice is yours! The chance to learn some new songs, harmonies, vocal techniques and vocal dynamics, to have fun and Sing for Joy!

Course aim

Learn to sing with a West End performer! Try different vocal styles and genres in a fun and supportive environment, no previous experience necessary.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • You will need your own personal email address so that you’re able to login to the WEA’s digital learning platform: WEA Canvas. By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Feel I have a better understanding of how to use my voice. I will have improved my vocal range, strength and breathing techniques and have a better understanding of how to structure a song.
  • Learn a number of songs from different genres and styles of music from West End shows to country to jazz...
  • Learnt a number of basic harmonies, singing in the round, vocal dynamics and how to put a song across.
  • Appreciate different music and vocal styles
  • Made some new friends and had the opportunity to socialise with a new group of people in a fun and supportive environment.

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • You will be encouraged to consider other students work and give your opinions and suggestions

What else do I need to know?

  • Nothing else is needed
  • All materials will be provided

  • You are paying the standard fee (with a credit or debit card) or you are on any of the qualifying benefits
  • You have a valid email address so that you can receive confirmation of your booking
  • You have been resident in the UK, EU or EEA for the last 3 years
  • You are aged 19 years or older on 1st September 2020
