Continuing Latin for Pleasure

Ref: C3678870

Come and learn Latin in a friendly, supportive and stimulating group. We shall translate a wide range of extracts from Latin literature aimed to give students the skills to become independent readers of Latin. Much of the Latin will be adapted from the original to make it accessible to students but shorter extracts of unadapted Latin will also be given. Each week some aspect of grammar and syntax will be explained and practised. All students will have plenty of opportunities to translate, discuss and benefit from the wide range of insights provided by all the members of the class. Wherever possible we will consider the impact of Latin literature on modern European society and culture and its links to modern debates. Please note that whilst students whose Latin is rusty will be very welcome on this course, it is not suitable for beginners.
