On this course we will follow the development of Post-impressionism from the in the late 19th and early 20th century. We will examine such themes as developments in colour theory, the influence of Japanese art, and the use of painting to express inner feelings. We will also focus on the work of individual artists such as Signac, Van Gogh and Gauguin.
Course aim
To introduce students to the history of Post-impressionism, and to familiarize them with the work of Post-impressionist painters.

By the end of the course I should be able to:
- Demonstrate an understanding of the history and development of Post-impressionism.
- Explain the importance of specific Post-impressionist techniques and styles.
- Explain the importance on Post-impressionism within its social, historical and artistic context.
