You will learn all the basic skills and techniques in playing the ukulele as well as songs and instrumental music. We will study songs from a wide range of styles and learn to perform them as a group. We will also perform the music we have studied within the local community.
Course aim
We will learn all the basic playing techniques on the ukulele as well as music reading skills.
Do I need any particular skills or experience?
- This course is suitable for beginners and improvers
By the end of the course I should be able to:
- Play all the basic chords
- Understand the history and construction of the ukulele
- Have basic music and tablature reading skills
- Play a variety of songs and instrumental pieces
- Perform within the community
How will I be taught?
- The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
- You may be asked to undertake additional work in your own time to support your learning
- You will be expected to carry out a range of activities in your own time
What kind of feedback can I expect?
- You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
- You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
- You will be encouraged to consider other students work and give your opinions and suggestions
What else do I need to know?
- You will need a soprano, concert or tenor ukulele
