An Introduction to Women in War Time-Medical Roles and Air Raid Precautions

A short course delivered via lectures to introduce the role of women in the ARP services and medical roles during WW1 and 2. The focus will be on the City of Sheffield but the story is very much countryside at the time they were called upon.

Course aim

The role of women in both wars is known and in these lectures we shall introduce the roles and how they were applied in the Sheffield area during WW1 and WW2

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is for a group of around 15 students studying in a live video-learning platform conference and an online digital learning environment platform from the comfort of your own home.

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Understand the roles of women during national emergencies
  • Learned a little more about the period of history discussed.
  • Perhaps wish to participate in future research projects and learning that the WEA may develop

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
  • this is an online lecture as an introduction to the subject

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor

What else do I need to know?
