Making changes in your life, your community or beyond is never easy - but this short, friendly women only course will help you to explore how to build on your strengths and skills, to discover how to create positive changes for yourself and others. This will also involve building confidence and finding your own voice as we make practical plans towards fulfilling ambitions or even dreams? Join us for some lively discussion and fun of working with others and taking steps to create both personal change and how to become an active agent for change in your community or the planet - or both!

Course aim

Discover how to create change for yourself and others- building confidence, finding your voice and becoming an active, creative agent for change.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is open to Unison members only
  • This course is for women only as it is held in a women's centre
  • A basic understanding of English is required, though students can participate at their own level This course is suitable for women wanting to enter into adult education for the first time or to return to education

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Describe at least three reasons for women finding making or creating change difficult
  • Identify how to feel more confident to use your individual strengths to be creative when planning for change
  • Work collectively to discover practical ways to engage with others for change
  • Use ideas discussed to develop your own active agency for personal or social change

How will I be taught?

  • You will be expected to carry out a range of activities in your own time

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • A file of work will be kept which will help to record your progress

What else do I need to know?

  • All materials will be provided
  • It would be helpful if you had access to the internet (Mobile phone, tablet or computer at home or through a library etc.)
  • You will need to attend an overnight weekend residential. The costs of this will be paid by Unison.

Pre-course work, reading and information sources

  • No pre reading or pre course work is required

This course is funded by the West of England Combined Authority but is also open to residents of other areas.

As a registered charity, and to meet our funders’ requirements, we need to check a few things with you before you enrol. Please check the details below to ensure you meet the basic eligibility critiera:

  • You are paying the standard fee (with a credit or debit card) or you are on any of the qualifying benefits
  • You have a valid email address so that you can receive confirmation of your booking
  • You have been resident in the UK, EU or EEA for the last 3 years
  • You are aged 19 years or older on 1st September 2020
  • You declare that the address you provide is correct and that you will provide evidence of this and your eligibility to live and work in the UK
  • You have read and accept our standard terms and conditions
