Dante's Paradiso is the climax of his Divine Comedy, one of the greatest poems in Western literature. Here in Paradise (heaven) there is no more self-centred viciousness, and no more painful cleansing, but instead generous exchanges and various kinds of dancing with each other, and with ideas that uncover the deeper meanings of our lives. The course will read two or three cantos a week, and then discuss on Zoom the highlights and problems in the reading, opening up helpful ways of bringing the writing to life and connecting the poem to our own experience. Supplementary podcasts for each canto help prepare us for the group discussions. This course is a fully online with no physical meeting space, accessing the course through Canvas our virtual learning environment and zoom a video conferencing software.
