This course is fully online accessing the course through Canvas our virtual learning environment and zoom a video conferencing software. You will need, reliable internet connection and internet-linked device with camera and microphone. We will email you links to canvas, please accept these to access the course, the sender will show as “instructure”. This short session looking at basic digital camera techniques follows on from tasters run during lockdown. Suitable for beginners, the workshop will look to confirm some basic digital camera techniques to underpin your image making, and would be good preparation for longer courses. We are likely to explore managing exposure and focus, but may be able to include other topics to suit students' needs: this will be agreed at the beginning of the session.

Course aim

A short 'open forum' session looking at basic digital camera techniques, suitable for beginners.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • You will need your own personal email address so that you’re able to login to the WEA’s digital learning platform: WEA Canvas.   • This course is for a group of around 15 students studying in a live video-learning platform conference and an online digital learning environment platform from the comfort of your own home.

  • Suitable for anyone looking to exercise more control over their digital camera and improve their photography...

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Explain 'exposure' in practical camera terms
  • Demonstrate a basic control of exposure on my camera
  • Explain the circumstances where camera autofocus may be ineffective
  • Demonstrate how to be sure my camera is in focus

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
  • Online lecture with scope for some discussion

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • Discussion with tutor and group within the session

What else do I need to know?

  • You will need a personal email address to join the WEA’s digital learning platform, Canvas so that you can receive resources, record your progress and achievement and to work with others and share ideas.   • Please have your camera ready for the session with battery fully charged. It might be useful to have the handbook available. Session may help answer some questions if you are looking to buy a camera, but that will not be the main focus and the tutor will not be able to recommend models to purchase.
