Will lockdown present opportunities for environmental improvement?-Dial in only

Ref: C3531509

The public health crisis has hit the UK economy in a manner that may yet prove unprecedented. As lock-down eases, we observe a recovery of economic activity, although there is evidence of lower atmospheric pollution and carbon dioxide outputs have reduced. Fossil fuel consumption has taken a hit. There is a real danger of mass unemployment, but quality of the lives we lead may change for the better. Should we travel less, work from home and force a more 'sustainable' economy? How might we balance these considerations? We may also ask what the opportunity may be for a better distribution of wealth within the UK and internationally? Who are the winners and losers? Is the UK political system really up to effecting a transformation? Does the covid-19 crisis coming out of the blue tell us there is a need for better environmental strategies. The purpose of this session is to air and briefly discuss these controversial topics. There are no easy answers, that is a promise!
