This course is designed to enable individuals and couples/families to start thinking about the emotive, personal and financial aspects of retirement. It will look at the effects retirement may have on individuals and their relationships with partners/families. We will look at the financial aspects relating to changes in income and expenditure and how these changes can be planned for as well as having an in-depth look at different pension types and the rules around State and Personal Pensions and pensions freedoms
Course aim
This course is to give an understanding of the financial and practical implications which may take place at retirement. It will aim to give students the ability to assess what the changes to their lifestyle may mean and how they can plan for this.

By the end of the course I should be able to:
- Consider and understand the emotive and practical aspects around retirement.
- Have an understanding of the financial changes in retirement and areas which need to be considered.
- Understand the rules regarding State and Personal Pensions and the regulations of pensions freedoms and retirement income
- Explore opportunities in retirement around hobbies/activities, volunteering and secondary employment

- The WEA’s digital learning platform, Canvas will be used to provide resources or to support lessons, enable assessment, provide learner feedback and for other activities for individuals away from the course. What kind of feedback can I expect?
- A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
