This course aims to provide an introduction to the beauty and adventure watercolour painting for beginners. Through guided exercises, students will explore the basic techniques of watercolour, including paint consistency, brush techniques and the mixing and application of colour, using a limited and versatile palette. Students will learn techniques to create depth in landscape compositions. Students will be taken through a step-by-step process of creating a landscape painting.
Course aim
Learn watercolour techniques from scratch, to create vibrant and naturalistic paintings. Beginners and improvers welcome.
Do I need any particular skills or experience?
- This course is suitable for beginners and improvers
By the end of the course I should be able to:
- Explore watercolour techniques such as paint consistency, laying washes, brush techniques and fixing mistakes.
- Explore painting techniques to achieve depth and dynamism in landscape painting.
- Explore the visual elements - such as colour, texture and tone - to create engaging compositions.
- Build confidence in creative work by exploring art techniques / processes and sharing ideas with others.
How will I be taught?
- The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
- You may be asked to undertake additional work in your own time to support your learning

- You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
- You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
