This is a beginners course providing the opportunity to learn some foundation Hand Embroidery stitches. Practise this beautiful and relaxing craft in our sociable group. Together we will try out a variety of stitches and then look at how the different combinations can create flower shapes. Course aim
Provide the opportunity for students to practise a selection of Hand Embroidery stitches with the guidance and support of your tutor and fellow students.

By the end of the course I should be able to:
- Review the foundation stages of stitching by hand considering cloth, threads, needles and starting and finishing off my stitching.
- Make a sampler with a variety of Foundation Hand Embroidery stitches to include, Running Stitch, Back Stitch, Chain Stitch, and French Knots.
- Combine these Foundation Stitches together to make patterns which resemble flowers.
- Create a mini garden with these Hand Embroidery stitches.
How will I be taught?
- The WEA’s digital learning platform, Canvas will be used to provide resources or to support lessons, enable assessment, provide learner feedback and for other activities for individuals away from the course. - The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
- You may be asked to undertake additional work in your own time to support your learning

What else do I need to know?

- You will need a variety of practical materials for Hand Embroidery. A couple of pieces of fabric to fit into a small embroidery hoop. Embroidery needles (Crewel or Chenille) embroidery thread, small scissors and pins. A small notebook and pen would be useful.
Pre-course work, reading and information sources
- No pre reading is required but research on the subject on the internet or in the library may be helpful
