Join Chef and Food Writer Kevin Ashton as he helps improve your cooking skills with professional advice and easy to follow, step-by step video demonstrations of recipes for you to try at home. This course will demonstrate that in taking the time to plan and prepare a meal from scratch, you will see powerful improvements to both your physical and psychological wellbeing. Also, cooking to improve your health doesn’t have to be boring, it’s all about balance. Recipes will be nutritional and delicious, and because we will be cooking from scratch, low in chemicals and other artificial ingredients. We will cover dishes for starters, main courses and desserts , with plenty of opportunity to ask questions and discuss ingredients. There will also be a focus on working safely in the kitchen, including food hygiene (how to handle and store cooked and raw foods safely), how to use knives and other kitchen equipment safely and how to source ingredients economically.
Course aim
Learners will improve their cooking skills and confidence in the kitchen, with a selection of easy to cook recipes to improve the health and wellbeing of you and you family.
Do I need any particular skills or experience?

- Prepare and cook a variety of recipes from scratch
- Feel more confident about your cooking skills
- Follow procedures for working safely in the kitchen.
- Understand the principles of kitchen hygiene, and the safe storage of food.
- Recognise how to shop economically.
How will I be taught?
- The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
