Linocut Printing for Beginners

Explore linocut printmaking techniques to create a unique print with more than one colour. Students will learn through step-by-step demonstration and encouraged to develop creative skills through personal response. Students will be encouraged to share their experiments and have fun.

Course aim

Enjoy learning creative skills at a relaxed and friendly pace. An introductory course to linocut printmaking technique. Beginners welcome.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Learn how to transfer a design to a lino block and use a variety of carving technique to add visual interest.
  • Learn registration techniques to create a print with one or more colours.
  • Explore visual elements such as line, shape, texture in creating dynamic designs.
  • Build confidence in creative work by exploring techniques / processes and sharing ideas with others.

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA’s digital learning platform, Canvas will be used to provide resources or to support lessons, enable assessment, provide learner feedback and for other activities for individuals away from the course.   • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
  • You may be asked to undertake additional work in your own time to support your learning

  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • You will be encouraged to consider other students work and give your opinions and suggestions
