Level 1 Award in Basic Make-up Application

This course will enable you to perform basic make-up application techniques. You will learn how to use foundation, concealers, powder, and eye, cheek and lip products. You will also develop customer service skills and the knowledge and skills you need for consultations and skin analysis. Before you can join this course, you will need to talk to a member of staff and do an initial assessment to make sure the course is right for you. To enrol on this course students must contact Tees Valley Women's Centre (01642) 296166 for the pin number to enrol onto this course. This is so the centre can check if child care is necessary whilst student is on the course.

Course aim

The course will provide you with a basic knowledge of the preparation and application of make-up. through a combination of theory-based learning and practical activities.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Select appropriate products, tools and equipment
  • Prepare the fact for make-up application
  • Apply basic make up products
  • Follow safe and hygienic working practices
  • Communicate in a professional manner with customers

How will I be taught?

  • Teaching methods include: group discussions, tutor demonstrations, Q&A and support with written work and portfolio building. Homework may be set by your tutor, guidance for this will be discussed within your course with your tutor.

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • Weekly feedback with be given by your tutor on your practical and theory work. One to one discussions will be available and arranged with yourself and your tutor.

What else do I need to know?

  • The WEA will provide a substantial part of the materials. A student starter kit will also be necessary. Your tutor will discuss this during your first session.

Pre-course work, reading and information sources

  • No pre reading or pre course work is required

  • Progress onto another WEA accredited course (more information provided by your tutor during your course).
