Learn simple ways to draw beautiful flowers, leaves and seed heads, (some realistic and some imaginary), and practice embellishing them with watercolour, coloured pencils, collage and more! Ideal for beginners, or those who want to be inspired by new art techniques. We will practice a variety of doodle patterns and try out different ideas for attractive backgrounds. We will use them to decorate cards, gift tags or frame them to display on your walls - yes they will be that good! This is a very popular art form at the moment and has the added benefit of being stress free. Join this friendly, creative course, no experience necessary just have a go and have fun .

Course aim

To provide an introduction to the art of creating flower doodles. This art form is very calming and can be learned.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • You will need your own personal email address so that you’re able to login to the WEA’s digital learning platform: WEA Canvas.   • This is a live lecture delivered by a subject specialist in an online webinar video learning platform. You will need to be able to access the internet on a device with speakers or earphones. By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Draw three flower doodles and three other doodle designs such as leaves, seed-heads, wreaths/garlands or borders.
  • Know of two background designs.
  • Choose and use a suitable medium to add colour to designs.
  • Use a floral design to decorate a card, gift tag or picture.
  • Have experienced how doodling can be a calming activity.

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA’s digital learning platform, Canvas will be used to provide resources or to support lessons, enable assessment, provide learner feedback and for other activities for individuals away from the course.   • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • You will be able to keep a record of your progress and achievement using photos, audio, text or documents uploaded into the WEA’s digital learning platform, WEA Canvas.
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • You will be encouraged to consider other students work and give your opinions and suggestions
  • There will be a number of tasks appropriate to your course such as written work, creating art or craft, video, photography or small projects. Some of these may be marked to help you progress
  • This is a practical class where you can draw alongside the tutor.

What else do I need to know?

  • You will need basic art supplies- such as paper, pen, colour. A list will be provided before the course starts.
