Come along to this exciting and interactive course that will leave you feeling enthusiastic & confident in using Zoom and more familiar with Canvas. You will learn a variety of functions and get the chance to explore your own capabilities with Zoom and feel more at ease with using the virtual learning environment - Canvas. During the course you will learn how to set virtual backgrounds, use breakout rooms, share documents, log on to Canvas, and change your password & much more more! Course aim

This online course aims to develop learners’ ability and raise confidence in the use of Zoom and Canvas to prepare learners for using Zoom and Canvas for work or further/higher education.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • You will need your own personal email address so that you’re able to login to the WEA’s digital learning platform: WEA Canvas.   • You will need to be able to follow links to join our WEA live video learning platform: WEA Zoom. If you’d like to understand more about our video learning platform, Zoom please visit: http://bit.ly/WEAonline and http://bit.ly/ZoomSpec
  • This course is for a group of around 15 students studying in a live video-learning platform conference and an online digital learning environment platform from the comfort of your own home.
  • This is a live lecture delivered by a subject specialist in an online webinar video learning platform. You will need to be able to access the internet on a device with speakers or earphones.   • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers
  • Basic E1 speaking and listening skills desirable

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Have an overview of Canvas, Understand how to enter Zoom through Canvas, Understand the concept of entering/exiting breakout rooms, Recognise the Ask for Help button.
  • Be familiar with the Whiteboard and how to annotate, Use Reactions for peer support, Change the skin tone on their reaction emojis, Have confidence in switching between speaker and Gallery view.
  • Minimise and maximise Zoom, Understand how to share computer screen and sound, Learn to add Canvas as a favourite on their web browser, Recognise risks for GDPR and how virtual background can protect their identity.
  • Understand how to use Closed Captions and why, Understand how to register as a student with Canvas, Understand how to accept their Canvas course invitation, Learn how to reset their Canvas password.
  • Familiarise themselves with the Canvas Home page using different devices, Familiarise themselves with the different activities on Canvas (quizzes, discussions, assignments, etc), Participate in doing different activities on Canvas as a whole class.

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • You will be encouraged to consider other students work and give your opinions and suggestions
